So what does this mean – how soon will we be matched? It’s been quite a long time since I first went through the adoption process, so here’s a recap of the cliffnotes variety. First we finished all the necessary requirements for the U.S. for the adoption in the form of a Home Study. This included background checks, psychological evaluations, social worker visits, and lots of paperwork. We then had to complete our Dossier, which is the packet of documents that will be sent to Colombia. This included our Home Study along with a few other extra bits of paperwork that Colombia requires.
(Side Note: This is where we were in Dec. 2014, but had to put everything on hold until after Ella was born. For the past year we have been updating documents and waiting on letters from ICBF.)
Then came today. YAY!!! The authorities at ICBF have approved our file and as of June 4th we became one of the many families officially waiting to be matched with children! So how long will our wait be? We have no idea. There are families that have been waiting 2-3 years and have not been matched yet. So it could be another 2-3 years before we see our children. However because we have been approved for a sibling group, and because we have a list of special needs that we are open to, there is the very real possibility that it will be a lot sooner than that. I am personally trying not to get my hopes up – I am mentally planning for it being 3 years, even though my heart wants to plan for 3 months! Our agency rep said we should hear from them in the next few weeks regarding their estimation for a wait time.
That’s all the excitement I can handle for one day – I feel truly blessed and my heart is full with the possibilities of the future! Now to settle down and spend some quality time with Rosetta Stone!
